The Galway Roast
Packaging redesign for The Galway Roast Coffee, created to make their premium coffee blends look more professional and stand out on shelf in LIDL supermarkets. The project included redesigning the ground coffee and whole bean packaging, and later extended to Creamy Bean Espresso, a premium sub-brand for which we designed the logo and overall packaging, ensuring cohesion and clarity across the product line.

Galway Roast was already stocked in LIDL supermarkets, but the retailer suggested a packaging redesign to improve shelf presence and make the products look more professional.

Niall Murphy, founder of Galway Roast, approached me to revamp the packaging for both ground coffee and whole beans. Galway Roast offers small-batch, hand-roasted coffee sourced from Brazil, Guatemala, and Honduras, with a focus on 100% premium Arabica beans. The goal was to create packaging that reflected the quality of the coffee and made it clear, cohesive, and shelf-ready.

Packaging Redesign​

The redesign focused on clearly communicating Galway Roast’s brand values and improving shelf impact. Each package highlights what makes the blends unique, emphasizes the use of 100% Arabica beans, and provides tasting notes, strength, and brewing suggestions to guide the customer.
The design also reinforces the brand’s visual identity with signature colours, shares the story of Galway Roast and a photo of Niall to create a personal connection, and includes brewing instructions and special features to showcase the care and craftsmanship behind every batch.

Sub-Branding: Creamy Bean Espresso

Creamy Bean Espresso originally existed as an additional flavour in the Galway Roast range, but we recommended rebranding it as a premium sub-brand to reflect its status as a single-origin coffee and emphasize its more luxurious positioning.
We designed a unique logomark that merges the iconic Galway Roast bean with an espresso cup, creating a distinct and premium identity while remaining consistent with the main brand.
The packaging incorporates the same key information as the other products such as tasting notes, blend details, and brewing guidance, ensuring consistency. This sub-brand design now serves as a template for future single origin coffees, giving Galway Roast a consistent and elevated look for all premium offerings.

The packaging redesign strengthened Galway Roast’s presence in LIDL, improved shelf appeal, and reinforced the brand’s premium positioning. By redesigning the ground and whole bean lines and creating the Creamy Bean Espresso sub-brand and logo, we helped the brand showcase its single-origin and premium coffees in a professional, cohesive way. The new packaging now does justice to the excellent quality of the coffee, ensuring it is seen and experienced as the premium product it truly is.
