Hot Chip
Ongoing packaging design collaboration with Hot Chip, one of Ireland’s fastest growing cookie brands. Our work began in 2021 with the redesign of Hot Chip’s cookie dough packaging and has since expanded to include Hot Chip Dough Balls and, most recently, Hot Chip Mini Crunch.
The packaging redesign and subsequent product launches played a key role in helping Hot Chip grow from supplying local cafes into national retail in Ireland, including Tesco and Dunnes Stores, followed by international distribution across the UK and the US, as well as high profile brand collaborations with Coca Cola, Vodafone, and Ben and Jerry’s.

Project Description

Hot Chip was founded by David McSharry in 2020 during the first Covid lockdown, starting as a small business supplying cookie dough to local cafes in South Dublin. The product quickly built a loyal following, but the original packaging was handmade and not suited to retail or larger scale distribution.

We began working together in 2021, when Hot Chip was ready to grow beyond cafes and needed packaging that looked professional, consistent, and credible on shelf.

Expanding the Range: Hot Chip Dough Balls

As Hot Chip continued to scale, we collaborated on the launch of Hot Chip Dough Balls, extending the brand into a new product format while maintaining a consistent visual identity.
​
The designs were created to sit confidently alongside the original cookie dough on shelf, using strong flavour cues and a cohesive brand system. This format allowed Hot Chip to enter Tesco in Ireland and, more recently, expand distribution into the United States, reaching new audiences and markets while staying true to the brand’s commitment to only using high-quality ingredients and its fun, indulgent personality.

Latest Launch: Hot Chip Mini Crunch​

Hot Chip Mini Crunch is the latest addition to the range and our most recent collaboration. This launch marks a shift into ready to eat products, expanding the brand beyond bake at home treats.
The Mini Crunch packaging was designed to feel fun, premium, and immediately recognisable as Hot Chip, while fitting seamlessly within the wider brand family.

Since the initial packaging redesign, Hot Chip has grown from a local cafe supplier into a national and international brand. The Dough Balls format allowed Hot Chip to enter Tesco in Ireland and expand into the United States, while Mini Crunch added a ready to eat option to the range.

Alongside retail growth, Hot Chip has collaborated with major brands such as Coca Cola, Vodafone, and Ben and Jerry’s, strengthening its position as a standout Irish cookie brand. Consistent, scalable packaging design across the cookie dough, Dough Balls, and Mini Crunch ranges has been central to supporting this expansion and enabling Hot Chip to grow with confidence while staying true to its commitment to using only high-quality ingredients.
